"I am Makousham, the bear who had to eat everything in one meal, the thanksgiving, dance, drum of the great communion, chief's stole, shaman's cloak, I died so that you might live so that your family might live. I was "little grandfather", and "little grandmother", on the path of all rebirths. The truth was in the fat, in the deep sleep, in the strength of the black bear, the power of dreams and spirit.5"

Serge Bouchard, Anthropologist

This is a tribute to my grandmother Agathe, called the Montagnaise (Innu), born of unknown parents. She was baptized under Agathe La Paroisse (parish) with the mention Montagnaise on January 28, 1784, in La Malbaie. She was adopted by Ignace Gagné and Geneviève Lavoie. She took the Gagné name in 1809.  At 17 years old, she married Bernard Boulianne, my ancestor, and had 8 children, including Vital, my great-great-grandfather. She died in 1873 at age 89.
