Let Us Appease The Gods

Death, nature which
can be generous or merciless, the anguish of what we cannot control has pushed
the first humans to turn to the ancestors and have created gods to be favorable
to them and thus calm their anxieties about life.
They then passed on
their experience and their existential torments. They thus elaborated systems
to better appease the celestial forces and to give themselves a better social
coordination by moral and behavioral rules.
Religions were then
born with their best and worst. Human weakness and law became obstacles between
gods and men.
The sacrifice of
appeasement fell then on the beasts and the men on the altars of expiation.
A piece of walnut
with a burlap (growth) is the basis for illustrating these liturgies dating
back to human origins. In the Fertile Crescent, the sacrificial animals were
often sheep or goats for the rich and doves for the poor.
Among other peoples.
Human sacrifices could occasionally be made as if the deity was thirsty for
blood, and in the case of conflict between peoples, it was not uncommon for the
one sacrificing to end up like the sacrificed.
To be at peace with
that which transcends us is then a necessity that costs the price of blood.
