Confusion

Confusion

Burnt and stained basswood, painted steel wire, brass wire, varnish

33.02 x 17.78 x 10.16 cm

2022

This work is a tribute to my nomadic ancestors, hunter-gatherers who roamed a territory (Ntisinan) stretching from Labrador to the outskirts of Trois-Rivières.

Through the construction of this montage of wood and metal, I have represented the person suffering from Alzheimer's, who oscillates between fantasy and the drama of this disease.

The burnt wood shows the traces of time and anguish on the face. The empty eye shows the apathy that slowly sets in.

The white-painted metal illustrates the memory of reminiscence, bringing back happy memories of the past. The black wires, with their downward movement, represent short-term memory and the anguished awareness of the sufferer, who sees through this eye the slide towards oblivion and loss of autonomy.
